Puerto Rico

The storm made landfall in Puerto Rico on Thursday, September 13, 1928. Like Hurricane Maria, it struck the island directly, with the eye of the storm entering the island near Guayama and exiting the island near Aguadilla. It is estimated that the island received 30+ inches of rain in some areas, with property and crop damage estimated to be $50 million–or $492 million today. The death toll is believed to be somewhere around 1600.
